Caribfluencers Panel at Blogalicious Conference

August 24, 2017 by Mikelah Leave a Comment

Our culture, our business, our way! I’ve previously attended Blogalicious and it was a pivotal experience that changed the way I approached the content here on the blog. This time I return as a speaker with these amazing ladies as we discuss being Caribbean content creators and influencers…hence the name Caribfluencers!

The Carifluencers panel at this year’s Blogalicious Conference in Miami, Florida (October 5-8) brings together 5 Caribbean-American content creators from various industries; fashion, music, career, entrepreneurship and personal finance, but the common thread is the Caribbean cultural similarities.

Kerry-Ann (Carry on Friends), Wanda (L’union Suite), Melisa Boutin (Your Money Worth), Deanna (Dys Chick) and Mikelah (Style & Vibes) will discuss how they use our niche culture to build our separate brands and how they’ve been able to support each other in building a strong content creator community.

Why is this discussion important right now?

When people think of the Caribbean they think lush beaches, drinks with umbrellas and “no worries mon.” Tell your friends you’re visiting Jamaica and they’ll either fawn in excitement or warn you of how dangerous it is.

Often, many people visit without consideration of the rich and vibrant culture that happens amongst the people. The developments of entrepreneurship, entertainment and social issues that arise and how the Caribbean diaspora impacts the trends that arise from the region.

A panel discussion the dissects the following:

  • Inspirational trends vs. cultural appropriation, how we utilize culture to educate the mass
  • How cultivating relationship centered in cultural connections foster a sense of community
  • How we remain authentic to our audiences as we grow
  • How our business models are different because the consumers are different
  • Building your readership, earning money while remaining authentic
