3 Caribbean Women Who Make Fitness Inspiring

April 26, 2016 by Mikelah 2 Comments

Fitness has become an important part of my routine primarily after the birth of my now 6 year old daughter and even more in the last 2 years. While I’m not where I want to be, I’m always looking for inspiration to keep me going. These 3 Caribbean women are on their fitness game and one look at them inspires me to get up and get moving even when I don’t want to.

Kamila is a former beauty queen turned fitness and health instructor based in Jamaica. She also travels to do her Kamp Kamilah fitness sessions, which I did last summer. What I like about her is she stresses the importance of just getting in the exercise not matter how little. Her fitness sessions are not only was there a workout, but a conversation on eating the foods and keeping healthy. Her journey was no overnight success filled with setbacks and she openly shared with us. She has a series of quick fitness videos sharing on Instagram and Youtube at home in the garden or at the gym to help you keep moving.

Massy Arias

Massy Arias is a personal trainer born in the Dominican Republic, but based in the U.S. Her lean body and bubbly personality made me follow her on Instagram and recently covered Latina Magazine. She reminds me that muscle is sexy. As a woman, I incorrectly associated building muscle with “looking manly” but she makes muscle building look amazing. She also shares Instagram workouts (complete with celebratory dance moves at the end!), but I love when she teams up with another fitness buff to show next level moves incorporating strength and yoga moves. Massy also has her own fitness and nutrition program.

Fay-Ann Lyons

Fay-Ann might is the Vi-Queen of Soca, however her commitment to fitness is inspiring. Being an artist, she probably feels the expectation the bring her “A-game” consistently. Honest, she’s never looked out of shape (her abs…definitely #AbGoals worthy) but she has taken it to the next level with her diet and fitness regimen, which is definitely tough with her schedule. I commend her for putting fitness and health first and hopes she continues to inspire the massive!
