3 Takeaways from Kamp Kamila: Fitness, Nutrition & Education

August 5, 2015 by Mikelah 2 Comments

Kamp Kamila Takeaways

Kamila McDonald is a well known fitness guru in Jamaica. By sharing her intimate journey on living healthy with us online she continues to inspire other with her holistic approach to healthy living. The Adidas and WATA brand ambassador has not only created a digital workout platform with 10PoundPledge, she’s traveling to various cities with her new venture Kamp Kamila she’s taking her fitness & nutrition session on the road. Her first stop in New York City, after doing a trial in March earlier this year (which I missed), she decided to start her Kamp Kamila tour at the place that showed her love the first go-round.

Kamp Kamila exceeded my expectations of beyond just another fitness session. Her personal touch in sharing her journey and nutrition tips along with expert physical therapist is what sealed the deal, because most people need more than just a workout session. What I love about her approach was that she was focused on living a healthier lifestyle, not just dieting for a time being — an approach that takes much longer to foster, but is well worth the effort. Check out us Kampers in action during the session!

Here are my 3 takeaways from the session:

A healthy lifestyle is about physical and mental health

Looking good is by product of feeling good physically and mentally. It takes a conscious effort to do both. Knowing your physical limits is important too. If we don’t take of ourselves physically and mentally how can we tackle the rest of our lives proactively?

Commit to a healthy lifestyle

We have an obligation to commit to ourselves first. With so many quick fixes available you can easily get sucked into quick short term results that leave you in a worse state than you previously were in. Slow and steady will eventually lead you to the results you want if you’re consistent.

Get rid of the time clock

Progress is progress, no matter how small it feels. We often get deflated when we don’t achieve our goals by our personal time clock (I know I do! More on that in a later post) Small adjustment make the big difference. Improving your individually fitness level gradually and focus on healthier eating habits will.

BONUS: Go natural

You really don’t need all the extra stuff when it comes to food. Real food is what your body is meant to process. Sticking with real food you can achieve your goals, just make sure you’re reading the labels for the right kinds of ingredients…more on that in my full interview with her.

Yes! It was a game changer for me. I’m not as hard on myself and proud of the baby step I am making for a healthier lifestyle.
