Ne-Yo Launches a Label in Jamaica

June 20, 2011 by Mikelah Leave a Comment

R&B/Pop singer Ne-Yo has always had an affinity for Jamaica. Ge recently announced that he’s launching a division of his Compound label in Jamaica called Compound Island.

“We chose Jamaica because of its rich legacy of producing some of the world’s biggest recording artistes, be it in notoriety or album sales,” said Gayle.

He stated that Jamaica had a heavy influence on the music industry when it comes to setting trends and said his company was also about teaching the business of entertainment.

To kick-start the label, Compound will be hosting a series of parties in Negril over the Emancipation weekend.

Ne-Yo, who was in the island for Caribbean Fashion Week, used the opportunity to experience some of the capital city’s entertainment offerings at Mojito Mondays and Uptown Monday.

This is a great way for artists in the island to work with a great producer/artist with cross over appeal. I’m a little curious to see the artists he chooses to work with and how they develop. Remember when Akon took Brick & Lace and Tami Chynn under his wing and while they created a little cross over buzz, they’re projects weren’t as successful as anticipated. Ne-Yo seems to have a great respect for the music and the artists, so I hope Compound Island doesn’t disappoint.
