5 Lessons from DJ D-Nice’s Live IG DJ Session Home School aka #ClubQuarantine

It will go down as the largest virtual party, even if someone surpasses in numbers, this will be the most remembered. DJ D-Nice brought ALL the positive vibes on Saturday night DJing LIVE on Instagram for over 9 hours straight! Spinning music that spoke to the souls of over 100,000 people (more if you count the people who party hopped and the reach of people listening from one device.) Music lovers across the world, across genres tuned in to hear Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop and more.

While he was not the only DJ to go live, he was no doubt the most popular. There was no other live where you partied with celebrities like Rihanna, Buju Banton, Diddy, Ellen, Usher, Bruno Mars, Michelle Obama, Ava Duverney, Maleek Berry, Will Smith, Queen Latifah and so many more joined to party, some even left and came back! It was a great time and escape for those quarantined by COVID-19. We all learned or were reminded of a few things.

I never would’ve imagined that the best party I would create and DJ would be from the comfort of my own home. Homeschool is a thing! Yesterday was absolutely insane. The amount of artists and friends that virtually partied with me far exceeded my expectations. I’m feeling nothing but gratitude. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 Thanks to all of you that supported. This has been a great way to keep our spirits high. Blessings! Sending some love to my family. Shout out to all of my industry execs! Much love to all of the artists! Power of Music

Music has this unspeakable ability to move the spirit. It truly is a healing feeling, we all felt the vibes with every song that he played. The music was fun and uplifting at a time where many feel isolated, overwhelmed and just tired. D-Nice made us all reminisce, snap our finger, get off our couches and DANCE! It felt good! Music is an art form that has the power to get us together and keep us going.

Be a Student of Your Craft

D-Nice went from being a successful rapper to a successful DJ. I’ve always heard great things about his DJing skills, but I’ve never heard him personally. I, like many, got a front-row seat to his skills.

D-Nice showcased his depth of music knowledge, not just playing popular songs. If fact, he played very little current hits, digging into his “virtual crate” and brought it. Hearing songs from Queen Latifiah, Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Wonder, Too Short, Buju Banton and Machel Montano was a whole vibe!

DJ Nice read the crowd virtually, called for participation, he paced himself and understood his crowd built the momentum song after song. Crossing decades of music the entire set had a flow. Keeping the energy and suspense, you didn’t always know what D-Nice was going to play next. He also played hits from the music celebrities that popped in, showing love to their classic hits without dropping too many ad-libs.

Using Tools for Positivity

We hear so much negativity about the influence of the internet and social media that it was a great reminder that these tools are and can be used for a lot of good. Having the tools at your disposal is one thing, but doing something positive makes the tools useful.

Community Building

Leveraging the community played a huge part! I saw a few people sharing on social media and decided to pop in and didn’t leave until the very end. You know when you’re in the club and the slow jams come on, signaling you to go home, yeah that was me.

Listeners/Viewers really rallied behind him, by sharing his LIVEonline, via text and make #ClubQuarantine trend on twitter. Media houses like Vibe Magazine, CNN, Essence and branded entities like Netflix, Instagram, the NFL and NBA tuned in to get a piece of the action. It brought so many people from all walks of life to the party, where everyone was VIP.

Keep That Same Energy

My new nickname for D-Nice is Stamina Daddy, because he kept going, and going, and going! In an era where most DJs only have an hour to play because there are so many other DJs on the lineup, to maintain for 9+ hours is major. Promoters/DJs take note, maybe less DJs and more time to play is a better format.

Not only did he keep that same energy, but it should be inspiring for those listening in to keep that same energy too. We laughed, encouraged and enjoyed one another in a beautiful way (I love us!) Keep the positive vibes going because we all need it. Grace and patience go a long way…doh rush di ting!
