Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Treatment

29 Jul

I’ve been looking for a good leave-in treatment for my hair (at an affordable price, of course) and came across Cantu’s Shea Butter leave-in-conditioning treatment on my bi-weekly trip to Target. At only $5.00 I decided to give it a try. I opened the jar and it smelled amazing! I thought I found what I was looking for until I scooped up a handful to massage in my hair. The conditioner’s consistency was so thin! After lathering on a few handfuls I sat under the dryer for about 15 minutes. My hair still felt the same. It didn’t have that soft feel you usually have after a deep treatment, but the smell was intoxicating. My hair did have a bit more shine to it and although I was unhappy with the outcome I haven’t decided to shelf it just yet. I’ll use it as 2nd/3rd day moisturizer with a little water it should keep my curls looking less frizzy.

S&V Beauty Review: Sally Hansen Xtream Wear

13 Jul

Sally Hansen usually has great nail care products and accessories. I wanted to pick up some new colors for the summer and was immediately attract to the bright colors of Sally Hansen’s Xtreme Wear.

Coincidentally Target had these on sale so I opted to buy a few. As I started painting I realized I was in love with the color but the brush was horrible!

It left streaks on my nails after the first coat. I laid the second coat thick which masked the streaks — at first glance you can’t notice the difference, especially after the top coat. The end result was not bad and I’ll probably use it again, at least until it runs out,  but I would have been upset if I purchased these colors full priced.

My Hair: The Coil Out

9 Jul

I recently (recent as in 2 months ago) cut my hair into a long bob, I knew it would look great straight, but had to admit I wasn’t sure how my curls would look, even though I’ve cut it shorter for “the chop” when officially went natural about 5 years ago. I have to say that I’m totally in love with my shorter hair, curly and straight. I have been rocking the curls most of the summer because the humidity and straight hair don’t mix (even when I had a relaxer it didn’t work so well). However, I do straightening when getting it cut or trimmed especially since I finally found a stylist whom I trust.

Rep JA’s Gaza/Gully Shoot

4 May

Caribbean designer’s RepJA did a recent photo shoot for their latest Dancehall inspired collection of t-shirts. Gaza. Gully. Check out the footage below. I really love the progress of these young designers as they are representing Dancehall culture to the fullest, but I have to ask: Do these t-shirts add fuel to slowly fizzled fire?

The Gaza/Gully fued between Vybz Kartel and Mavado, respectively, gained serious momentum in 2009/2010 leading to fans attacking one another in defense of “their artist”. (more…)
