5 Reasons to See Bazodee

August 1, 2016 by Mikelah 2 Comments

Bazodee_Machel Montano Movie

Caribbean film Bazodee premiered last week in New York City. Starring Natalie Perera and soca star Machel Montano, the film is set during the eventful time of Trinidad Carnival. West Indian people came out in a massive way to support, Trinis was repping hard as expected! The film brought out the best of the crowd as the cheered in excitement at the site of Maracas Beach on the big screen, a few danced in the aisle waiving their flags, and laughed loudly at the comedy. Everyone was happy to support Machel Montano in his first major film appearance from his production company Monk Pictures. Romance, music and of course vibes, the romantic comedy is a feel good film that anyone would enjoy. Here are my five reasons to see Bazodee when it hits theaters on August 5.

1.) The Music

There are 3 leads…Machel, Natalie and the MUSIC! The soundtrack is a vibrant collection of Machel Montano’s hits with a little twist. You’ll get lost in the vibes; the crowd did as a few got up to dance and there are definitely some moments where you’ll find yourself singing along. Music is truly the unifying piece that makes the movie a hit.

2.) It’s the first Caribbean Rom-Com (Romantic Comedy)
I tried to think of the last Caribbean romantic comedy I saw. I couldn’t think of any in my lifetime, so I’ll call this one the first (drop me a comment if I’m wrong.) I love an a romantic comedy, although the plot is predictable, I love to watch it any way. It has a comedic flair that everyone will chuckle, but West Indians will have an all out laugh.
3.) Support Caribbean film
The film was made in Trinidad & Tobago using a local crew during Trinidad Carnival. They kept the scenery, costume and feel of the movie as authentic as possible. Using carnival as the foundation of the story will definitely inspire you to get there if you haven’t or relive your carnival memories.
4.) Staz Nair
Staz Nair is a serious heart throb! The British gent is not new to acting, but this is first lead role and his gorgeous smile doesn’t disappoint!
5.) Message of Unity
I like films that remind us about unity. The storyline is based on bringing people of difference races and class togetherDuring my interview with Machel, Natalie and director Todd Kessler they stressed the idea of the movie b
More about the film
Anita Ponchouri (Natalie Perera), the dutiful Indian daughter of a deep-in-debt businessman (Kabir Bedi) is about to marry a wealthy Londoner (Staz Nair) when a chance encounter with local singer, Lee de Leon (Soca music star Machel Montano in his film debut) sets things askew. In search of a muse, de Leon agrees to perform at the engagement party for both families. Unable to deny their mutual attraction, and with the excitement of Carnival approaching, Anita must now choose between the answer to her family’s financial prayers and the possibility of real love. Set on the vivid, colorful island of Trinidad and pulsing with the sensuous dance rhythms of soca music, BAZODEE is a new style Bollywood musical with a distinctly Caribbean island flavor.
