Model Sky Nicole Grey  who debuted her acting skills in Better Mus Come has added to her acting resume with the movie Restless City. The feature film tells the story of an African immigrant surviving on the fringes of New York City where music is his passion, life is a hustle and falling in love is his greatest risk. Although there is no trailer available for the movie, it seems she may be the love interest of the main character Djbirl (Sy Alassane). The film has been featured at a few film festivals including Sundance, Urban World Film Festival and received and MTV Movie Award and was recently mentioned a New York Times feature New Directors Flesh Out of Black America, All of It by Nelson George. Definitely looks like a great film.

2012 Blog Goals

by Miss Mikelah on January 2, 2012

I like setting goals for the new year. Setting up goals are pretty easy, the execution plan is the hard work. I going to make a huge effort to dedicate more time to my passion for blogging from the Caribbean-American perspective and I hope you all enjoy my journey.

1. Blog More – I quite often get torn on what to blog about (especially when I sit down to post at midnight). I have a killer editorial calendar…I just need to follow it. I’d love to introduce more about food and travel as well.

2. Buy a DSLR Camera – I’d love to take better pictures in 2012, so I’m hoping to buy a new camera (and a tripod) at some point this year.

3. Take Risks - More opinionated posts, more fashion posts and pushing myself to do things outside of the box.

4. Video – Style & Vibes is a brand, but I want to show more about my personality. after all I am the key demographic. showing a little more insight to my lifestyle through video and incorporating it into the blog.

5. Promote – I’m actually kind of shy and modest about my blogging. I know I’m great at what I do, but I don’t talk about it often enough online and off. I definitely plan on changing that for 2012. Who’s going to promote me better than me?

Have any resolutions or goals for 2012 (blog related or non-blog related), I’d love to hear them.

Spice up your nails for the holiday! I’ve actually had these for a while, but with the holiday upon us, these Sally Hansen Salon Effects were the perfect opportunity add a little glam to my nails. Appropriately titled “Misbehaved” (have you been naughty or nice this year?) with a black and gold lace design, the nail strips were slightly labor intensive to put on, but definitely worth the results. It was like placing a sticker and your nails and removing the excess with the nail file. I did have to use the orange stick to smooth out a few air bubbles between my actual nail and the strip once I place on top of the nail.

What I liked about the nail strips were that they didn’t chip and I removed after about 12 days only because they had grown out. It’s a great alternative to a minx manicure, which can cost $40-50. If you get a manicure weekly, it would give you an extra week or so at roughly the same price as a manicure.

Tip: Make sure your nails are completely clean and buffed before applying or else it won’t stick to the nail. Also, start from the pinky and work your way inward to the thumbs.

Featured: Guess Access Blog

by Miss Mikelah on December 17, 2011

One of my first watches as a child was Guess watch; I now have a collection of about six of them and to be working with them is an amazing connection with a brand I’ve always truly valued. Along with a few other fashion bloggers, I’ll be an occasional guess blogger on the Guess Access Blog. Check out a feature they did on a few of us about the Holiday looks, personal family traditions and items from our Trend Boards. If you like Polyvore, The Guess Access Trend Board is very similar, easy to use and fun! It incorporates Guess merchandise and highlights the watch as a key item.

Reggae singe I-Octane was recently in town and performed a few songs off his self released EP entitled Straight From the Heart at DROM in New York City. The EP features six new and original songs and is now available through iTunes and Amazon.

The invite only event was filled with media personnel and fans alike. Actor Leon, reggae artists Gyptian, Fambo, Hyah Slice, Lisa Hype and Martina were in the building to show support as well.  I-Octane opened with fan favorites “No Love Inna Dem,” “My Life,” “Lose A Friend,” “Mama You Alone,” “No More Black,” “Low Mi,” “Jah Jah Love Me (Accapella)” and “One Ting Mi Know Say.” The high energy set followed with singles from the EP such as “Burn Dem Bridge,” “Example For the Poor,” “My Problems Gone” and “Falling”.

“It was a great pleasure to come back to New York and perform in front of the radio personnel, media houses and DJs who support and help build my career. Most of all to perform with Derrick Barnett and Statement band for the first time was a great experience.” (I-Octane)

Sean Paul is back with a new video for “She Doesn’t Mind”. While I love the artwork for the single (James Bond 007-esque) I’m not crazy about the video’s girl on girl action and the storyline didn’t fit the song. Although it kind of reminded me of a homemade youtube video,  I did want to know what the lead girl actually smuggled passed security. What do you think?
