Nas and Damian Marley’s Distant Relatives and Janelle Monae’s The Archandroid Drop Today

18 May

Super excited for today’s album release (both I’ll be downloading from iTunes, please support good music). The highly anticipated Distant Relatives from Nas an Damian Marley. I’ve been ignoring all the pre-leaks so that I can enjoy the full album in its entirety.

Janelle Monae’s The Arch Android also drop, I love her eclectic sound and “Tightrope” is one of my favorite songs right now, so I’m excited to hear more material from her this time around.

S&V: New Music

19 Apr

New music is in overdrive. Here’s a sneak peak of some of the S&V favorites this week.

The “Hold You” phenomenon continues! Check out the remix from rapper Lou$tar featuring Shalea.

Cosa Nostra Riddim, simply hot! Produced by Ward 21 featuring Assassin, Timbeerlee and much more.

Sade can do no wrong, and neither can Tarrus Riley, great remix to “Soldier of Love”.

The Distant Relatives album from Damian Marley and Nas is coming along quite nicely, the latest leak is a remake of the late Dennis Brown’s Promise Land

New Vids: Michael Jackson | Etana | Amerie | Trey Songz |

4 Jan

Spike Lee directed the video for Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” and I was almost brought to tears with all the great footage. It just made fall in love with Michael Jackson all over again.

Michael Jackson – This Is It – Directed by Spike Lee from 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks on Vimeo.

Etana’s “Free” is an emotionally ballad and the video is just at thought provoking, directed by JayWill.

Amerie’s “More than Love” video was leaked. The video features Fabolous and the video makes me like the song more.

Trey Songz released an official video for “Say Aah” featuring Fabolous…mediocre at best.

Buju Banton Arrested

13 Dec

According to various news sources (Jamaica Gleaner, Miami Herald and Jamaica Observer) have confirmed that Buju Banton was arrested in Florida and is being held on drug possesion with intent to distribute. Details of his arrest have not been release and neither has an official statement from his management.

buju460

This comes a complete surprise and seems totally left field for the Rasta, seeing that he was on a successful tour for his Rasta Got Soul album and was recently nominated for a Grammy this week. Either way this is not a good situation for him, his family and Dancehall and Reggae music. I’ll refrain from commenting on this one until all the details are released.

Here’s a link to the latest on Buju’s situation

Vibin’ Right Now: Summer Favorites

6 Aug

Summer is usually a slow month when it comes to solid album releases, but this summer has given me a nice alternative with an abundance of good music to vibe to.
Knowing Black Eyed Peas (Pre-Fergie days) I’ve always been a fan of their music and their ability to lead in Hip-Hop different from everyone else (similar to my favorite Hip Hop duo, Outkast). Not only do I appreciate their style, but on this album with heavy electro bass sound not only gets me moving, but is feel good album. The double disc is stop me rockin’ to “I’mma Be” “Alive” and “Showdown”. BEP
I love when artists go on hiatus and come back with a refreshing sound. Maxwell’s Black Summer’s Night is a delightful ear-gasm — oozing with sensuality that makes me tingle all over! I was so excited to hear his music that I haven’t quite picked a favorite, but “Cold” is definitely on repeat!Maxwell
Tarrus Riley has always had a beautiful voice, one of my favorite new male singers on the Reggae scene. I love the raspy emotion that comes through his conscious lyrics like “Start A New” and “Let Peace Reign”. Tarrus has a great blend of romance and positive lyrics but love is the themed throughout the album…which is alright with me!Tarrus
