Bajan R&B/Pop singer Shontelle is back with a sexed up single title “Licky”. Pretty catchy, but I’m not really feelin’ it. It seems like a forced pop song that may get lost on the charts.
noneThe blogosphere was buzzing yesterday about Rihanna writing a book titled The Last Girl on Earth. No real details about the book’s content, just a release date of June 26th. You can pre-order a copy on Amazon. I’m sure the book will sell, but I’m not sure I’ll be running to get the first copy. I think she’s had typical island girl upbringing, she’ll probably touch on her past, obviously her relationship with Chris Brown, but other than than I’m not sure she has a substantial story to tell. Maybe she’s doing it for the young girls that look up to her, she received a lot of slack from fans and the media for initially going back to Chris after the incident. Would you buy the book? Or wait ’til your local library gets a copy? (Yes. Libraries still do exist!)
noneSpike Lee directed the video for Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” and I was almost brought to tears with all the great footage. It just made fall in love with Michael Jackson all over again.

Etana’s “Free” is an emotionally ballad and the video is just at thought provoking, directed by JayWill.
Amerie’s “More than Love” video was leaked. The video features Fabolous and the video makes me like the song more.
Trey Songz released an official video for “Say Aah” featuring Fabolous…mediocre at best.

Rihanna released a preview of her new video for the single “Hard” from her Rated R album. The video looks a little dark, similarly to “Russian Roulette” and “Wait Your Turn”. Absolutely love this song, but I’m not sure if I’m feeling where she’s going with the video, but we’ll see.

So Dirty Money (aka Diddy, Dawn and that other chick Kalenna Harper) released the video Love Come Down. I must admit I love the video. This song sound amazing in the club due to the bangin’ bassline and the annoyingly catchy hook.
Diddy is making his money so I’m sure he could care less about what I think, but I’m going to go ahead and state my observation about Dirty Money.
1.) Dirty Money is Diddy’s pet project of the moment, which means there will be no second album, so I hope Dawn and the Kalenna have back up plans.
2.) Dawn was my favorite and most talented in the Danity Kane group … this is the best you could do with her?
3.) Is it just me or does this remind you a remixed version of Total? (Nice beats, but displaying little talent, not that these ladies don’t have talent, but it’s not really being displayed, they just seem like Diddy’s backup singers)

Usher releases new music from his highly antipated follow up to the wack not so well received Here I Stand. Anyone who knows me knows I am an Usher fan (from his Call Me A Mack Days). The song is obviously about his break up with Tameka (I was probably the only one rooting for them.) and tells the tale of ish we already knew. Plain and simple –Papers is mediocre. It sounds like typical Usher and even has the remnants of his Confessions album. It’s definitely missing something in my book. I’m hoping this won’t be his official single, the song is okay and will grow on people, but I’m not sure that it will make the impact he was looking.
Usher tried making a statement with Here I Stand. I hope he just makes music on Raymond vs. Raymond.
noneSinger’s Room is my favorite site to check out new R&B music, my boy @duepayer put me on back in college, I’ve been hooked ever since. They’re bringing back their Singersroom Live “My Music, My Style” Concert Series, which celebrates the individuality and unquestionable talent of promising breaking artist.
I’m so excited to see Bajan singer Hal Linton, and I’ve heard a buzz about Jayms Madison. Should be good times and great music!
