Nas and Damian Marley’s Distant Relatives and Janelle Monae’s The Archandroid Drop Today

18 May

Super excited for today’s album release (both I’ll be downloading from iTunes, please support good music). The highly anticipated Distant Relatives from Nas an Damian Marley. I’ve been ignoring all the pre-leaks so that I can enjoy the full album in its entirety.

Janelle Monae’s The Arch Android also drop, I love her eclectic sound and “Tightrope” is one of my favorite songs right now, so I’m excited to hear more material from her this time around.

S&V Video Round Up

14 May

Drake’s “Find Your Love” premiered on radio just a few weeks after, but now we know what he was doing in Jamaica. Mavado makes a cameo as “the badman”. Pretty sure you can figure how it ends.

Gyptian is steady climbing up the Billboard charts with “Hold Yuh”. Nothing special about the video, but love the song none the less.

Alicia Keys delivers a great video concept with “Unthinkable” featuring Chad Michael Murray as her love interest. I love that the message of interracial relationships crossing various time periods.

Diddy & ‘em Dirty Money release a video for “Hello, Goodmorning”, but it’s a huge yawn.

S&V: New Music

19 Apr

New music is in overdrive. Here’s a sneak peak of some of the S&V favorites this week.

The “Hold You” phenomenon continues! Check out the remix from rapper Lou$tar featuring Shalea.

Cosa Nostra Riddim, simply hot! Produced by Ward 21 featuring Assassin, Timbeerlee and much more.

Sade can do no wrong, and neither can Tarrus Riley, great remix to “Soldier of Love”.

The Distant Relatives album from Damian Marley and Nas is coming along quite nicely, the latest leak is a remake of the late Dennis Brown’s Promise Land

Gyptian Feat Nicki Minaj – Hold Yuh (Remix)

15 Apr

Heard this remix of Gyptian’s “Hold Yuh” (So many people are jumping on this riddim, but I love this remix). So maybe Nicki Minaj will be at Hot 97’s Summer Jam and bring out Gyptian… high hopes for wicked performance moments!

Distant Relatives Album

27 Dec

Damian Marley and Nas have been talking about their album Distant Relatives for some time now (See video here). I am a huge fan of both these artists and can’t wait to hear what it sounds like. If you remember Nas and Damian collaborated on Damian Marley’s Welcome to Jamrock on Road to Zion. I think it’s going to more of the same and then some. Musically, I have high expectations for this album. It’s definitely on my list for  most anticipated albums of 2010. Here’s the album cover and track listing.

It’s That Dirty Money

13 Nov

dirtymoney

So Dirty Money (aka Diddy, Dawn and that other chick Kalenna Harper) released the video Love Come Down. I must admit I love the video. This song sound amazing in the club due to the bangin’ bassline and the annoyingly catchy hook.

Diddy is making his money so I’m sure he could care less about what I think, but I’m going to go ahead and state my observation about Dirty Money.

1.) Dirty Money is Diddy’s pet project of the moment, which means there will be no second album, so I hope Dawn and the Kalenna have back up plans.

2.) Dawn was my favorite and most talented in the Danity Kane group … this is the best you could do with her?

3.) Is it just me or does this remind you a remixed version of Total? (Nice beats, but displaying little talent, not that these ladies don’t have talent, but it’s not really being displayed, they just seem like Diddy’s backup singers)

It’s steaming up to be a hot musical summer! Machel Montano hooks up with Collie Buddz, another hot collab from the Soca King. We’re finally starting to see some action from Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Nas, as we have been hearing about Nas’ next album for a while now, and Sean Paul is about to squeeze off the Imperial Blaze with a lady So Fine.

Article with Wyclef on Allhiphop

20 Nov

EXCERPTS FROM WYCLEF’S Allhiphop.com article. He talks about his new album, T.I. and of course the lost Fugees Reunion… to read the entire artcle click Here

By Archna Sawjani
While the world steadily inquires about reunions, The Preacher’s Son stays on his international grizzly.

Lead Fugees rapper Wyclef Jean was the first member of the group to embark on a solo career [The Carnival (1997)], and he proved ambitious and eclectic on his own. As the Fugees hung in limbo, Wyclef became Hip-Hop’s unofficial multicultural conscience; a seemingly omnipresent activist, he assembled or participated in numerous high-profile charity benefit shows for a variety of causes, including aid for his native Haiti.

Wyclef’s political consciousness also informed in his recordings, which fused Hip-Hop with as many different styles of music as he could get his hands on. In addition to his niche as Hip-Hop’s foremost global citizen, Clef was also a noted producer and remixer who worked with an impressive array of pop, R&B, and Hip-Hop talent, including Whitney Houston, Santana, and Destiny’s Child, among many others.

With no Fugees reunion still in sight, Wyclef is continuing to focus on his solo projects; which includes a new album Memoirs of an Immigrant and helping aid his hometown of Haiti.

AllHipHop.com: How are you?

Wyclef: I’m good. How are you?

AllHipHop.com: Great thanks. So let’s get right into your new album…

Wyclef: Well, you know how Carlos Santana has Supernatural and Quincy Jones has Back On The Block? Well, this is Wyclef Jean, Memoirs of an Immigrant. This is the song-writing EP that everybody has been waiting for, where I go ahead and put all this mad music together and then find the sickest cast to perform on a piece of music. It’s crazy!

AllHipHop.com: You’ve collaborated with so many people in your time. Collaboration wise, what are we to expect on this record?

Wyclef: I won’t really call them collaborations. Collaborations often occur when you call someone and be like, “Yeah let’s collab.” However, with this album, I already had the vibes written and the energy in place and I just went and found a believable cast. So you can expect Wyclef and T.I. you know? T.I. comes in over a guitar that Wyclef is playing. Wyclef sings on the right side of the speaker whilst T.I rhymes on the left side. Every time I sing a line he rhymes a line. It’s sick! We also have Chamillionaire on a joint called “Immigration” cause it’s a serious topic back home in Haiti, and of course the return of Mary J. [Blige] and Wyclef with the 911 everyone is waiting for. Then you have Clef and Shakira rhythm; which is a new sound I’ve come up with called the Columbian Swing. It’s a sound that has a bit of an Indian twang to it. It’s mad, trust me.
