Usher, Ele & Chris Brown at Reggae Sumfest 2010

29 Jul

There was a lot of twitter excitement over Reggae Sumfest 2010 performances this year.  Vybz Kartel showed up in a jail suit, Bounty Killer was honored and Beenie Man reunited on stage with his wife D’Angel. I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t find some better video footage online of Sumfest 2010, but here are a few that were audible. Chris Brown was a pair of Clarks away from looking like a real Yardie when he took the stage with Elephant Man and Usher for a mini dance segment. I love that Usher and Chris both embraced a few dances (Gully Creepa, Sweep etc. ) Peep the dance off below.

Chris Brown’s solo performance.

Vybz Kartel was released from jail and headed straight to Sumfest.

Vibin’ On Cosa Nostra Riddim

13 Jul

Ward 21 released the Cosa Nostra Riddim earlier this year (Yeah I’m sure I’m pretty late on it, but there’s just too much new music to keep up with these days, quantity is taking the lead over quality these days). But I’m really feelin’ this riddim. Representing for the female DJ’s is, my favorite  on the riddim is Timberlee’s “General”. Keep up with Ward 21 and the rest of the Bada Bada crew on the blog.

S&V Video Round Up

14 May

Drake’s “Find Your Love” premiered on radio just a few weeks after, but now we know what he was doing in Jamaica. Mavado makes a cameo as “the badman”. Pretty sure you can figure how it ends.

Gyptian is steady climbing up the Billboard charts with “Hold Yuh”. Nothing special about the video, but love the song none the less.

Alicia Keys delivers a great video concept with “Unthinkable” featuring Chad Michael Murray as her love interest. I love that the message of interracial relationships crossing various time periods.

Diddy & ‘em Dirty Money release a video for “Hello, Goodmorning”, but it’s a huge yawn.

Rep JA’s Gaza/Gully Shoot

4 May

Caribbean designer’s RepJA did a recent photo shoot for their latest Dancehall inspired collection of t-shirts. Gaza. Gully. Check out the footage below. I really love the progress of these young designers as they are representing Dancehall culture to the fullest, but I have to ask: Do these t-shirts add fuel to slowly fizzled fire?

The Gaza/Gully fued between Vybz Kartel and Mavado, respectively, gained serious momentum in 2009/2010 leading to fans attacking one another in defense of “their artist”. (more…)

S&V: New Music

19 Apr

New music is in overdrive. Here’s a sneak peak of some of the S&V favorites this week.

The “Hold You” phenomenon continues! Check out the remix from rapper Lou$tar featuring Shalea.

Cosa Nostra Riddim, simply hot! Produced by Ward 21 featuring Assassin, Timbeerlee and much more.

Sade can do no wrong, and neither can Tarrus Riley, great remix to “Soldier of Love”.

The Distant Relatives album from Damian Marley and Nas is coming along quite nicely, the latest leak is a remake of the late Dennis Brown’s Promise Land

Gyptian Feat Nicki Minaj – Hold Yuh (Remix)

15 Apr

Heard this remix of Gyptian’s “Hold Yuh” (So many people are jumping on this riddim, but I love this remix). So maybe Nicki Minaj will be at Hot 97’s Summer Jam and bring out Gyptian… high hopes for wicked performance moments!

Demarco’s Show It Video

9 Apr

Demarco released his latest video for the song”Show It”. It’s giving me that Sean Kingston meet The Dream on the set of Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It” video, but I’m not mad at it. Definitely a Urban crossover song.
